US Rep. Pallone Grills FDA on Reversal of Formaldehyde Ban

Formaldehyde is still found in heated hair-straightening products.

In a recent report, House Energy and Commerce Committee chair Frank Pallone, D-NJ, was critical of what he understands as the FDA’s “last-minute reversal” of a planned ban on formaldehyde in hair smoothers.   “FDA is responsible for ensuring that cosmetic products are safe for consumer use, and it defies logic that the agency has failed to ban a known carcinogen from use in hair products, including Brazilian Blowout, that continue to be sold today,” the congressman said.   Pallone continued,...
